Collaborative learning opportunities on a local, national and global level enrich the student experience
The Dreeben School of Education builds collaborations with local schools, nonprofits, foundations, corporations and other organizations that share our commitment to advancing all areas of education. By working with diverse institutions through fieldwork, clinical teaching experiences or emerging initiatives, students come away with a deeper understanding of today’s most pressing issues in education and their real-world implications. The Dreeben School of Education at the University of the Incarnate Word is committed to preparing future leaders through our Teacher Education and Graduate Studies programs.
The Dreeben School of Education’s Teacher Education Program is working toward national accreditation with the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation. AAQEP promotes excellent, effective and innovative educator preparation that is committed to evidence-based improvement and leverages credible evidence, technological advances and innovations in quality assurance/accreditation.
Alamo Heights Independent School District enrolls an estimated 5,000 students across its five campuses. Alamo Heights ISD hosts UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program for fieldwork experiences.
North East Independent School District is the second largest school district in San Antonio. The district comprises 68 public schools serving an estimated 64,000 students. North East ISD hosts UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program for fieldwork experiences and clinical teaching.
Northside Independent School District is the state’s fourth largest school district and is home to 119 public schools enrolling an estimated 106,000 students. Northside ISD hosts UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program for fieldwork experiences and clinical teaching
The Dreeben School of Education’s Teacher Education Program is an emerging partner in the Raising Texas Teachers Initiative which is designed to support teacher preparation programs in addressing the needs of 21st-century students and encourage Texas’ best and brightest to pursue teaching as an important and fulfilling profession. The program aims to grow the pool of high-quality applicants entering the teaching profession; advance teacher preparation by supporting the implementation and expansion of best practices; and to elevate the appeal of, and respect for, the teaching profession.
San Antonio Independent School District is Bexar County’s third largest school district and serves more than 50,000 students through their 90+ schools. San Antonio ISD hosts UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program for fieldwork experiences and clinical teaching.
The Brainpower Connection is an association of Catholic schools connecting seven different institutions, and their faculties and students, to share their brainpower. Member institutions include primary schools St. Anthony Catholic School, St. Mary Magdalen School, Blessed Sacrament School and St. Peter Prince of the Apostles School; high schools Incarnate Word High School and St. Anthony Catholic High School; and the University of the Incarnate Word. Brainpower Connection schools host UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program for fieldwork experiences.
The Winston School San Antonio provides personalized, college preparatory education to students with high potential and identified learning differences. Located in the Medical Center of San Antonio, the school serves approximately 220 students in kindergarten through grade 12. As part of their collaborative outreach initiatives, The Winston School San Antonio welcomes UIW teacher candidates from the Teacher Education Program to their Learning Disabilities Simulation each fall and to the annual Learning Symposium each spring.
